Short-necked pachymorphous rhizome.
Non-invasive species under cultivation near guangdong, guangxi, yunnan villages.
Schizostachyum usually occur spontaneously at low and medium altitudes, up to about 1,000 meters, but some species also occur up to about 2,000 meters. In forests, clearings and also in the open field, preferring conditions with good humidity.
The name schizostachyum comes from the Greek schistos (“fissure”) and stachys (“pico”), referring to the spikelet spacing.
The species grows very well in tropical and subtropical regions.
Uses: culms used for papermaking and by artisans for weaving baskets, rugs and crafts in general.
The species is also grown in other parts of the world as an ornamental plant, hedgerow, windbreaker.
Its stems are light green colored, partially covered with white powder, develops dense bright green foliage and strong stems.
