Description
A small, Aloe-like succulent common in thickets, on cliffs and rocky slopes in southern Africa that forms a rosette of broad, light green leaves and ascending, unbranched flower stalks with star-shaped, bright yellow flowers. Seeds germinate rapidly and Bulbine natalensis is easy and fast growing in cultivation and best suited to cultivation in warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 9 and above. Leaf extract is used in traditional medicine like that of Aloe vera and it is also popular as an aphrodisiac.
