Description

A species from Southeast Asia, very rare in cultivation and currently threatened with extinction.

Beautiful pyramid-shaped tree that can reach more than 20 meters in height in its original habitat, with juvenile leaves that are colored in pink, turning to red and wine.

Surprising and deliciously perfumed flowering is born close to the trunk and gives rise to delicious yellow-orange pulp fruits, very sweet and aromatic.

The keppel tree is of extraordinary exuberance and unique elegance.

Curiosities:
The gardens of taman sari, also known as “taman sari castle of the waters”, a remarkable architectural complex built in the middle of the eighteenth century, is the royal garden of the sultanate of yogyakata; wooded with several specimens of stelechocarpus buhaol. Ancient Indonesians believed that when savoring keppel fruits, the body would exude intense aromatic secretions. Keppel fruits were reserved for women in the royal harem.

The species develops well in hot, humid, tropical and sub-tropical regions of Brazil in soil rich in nutrients. It usually bears fruit from the sixth – eighth year in cultivation. It has a deep root, and its leaves can take up to 6 – months to emerge after germination, much like the germination of paw paw seeds (assimilates triloba).

Young seedlings should receive only filtered sunlight and protection from occasional frost.

Keppel has potential pharmacological activity as an oral deodorant proven through the pulp powder of its fruits.

Keppel is a tree of extraordinary ornamental potential that presents us with unusual blooms next to the trunk and delicious fruits in addition to being extremely aromatic. Its fruits are consumed fresh or in the form of juices.
