Description
Dioscorea hamiltonii is a species of Dioscorea native to southern China, Taiwan, northern Indochina (Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar) and the Himalayas (Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam).
Stem angled, glabrous. Leaves ovate or lanceolate, acuminate, base truncate or cordate, glabrous, to 11 x 5 cm; basally 7-ribbed, intercostae close and subscalariform; petiole to 5 cm long. Male flowers in to 12 cm long slender axillary spikes; flowers in verticils. Perianth lobes ovate, 1.5 mm long, glabrous. Stamens 6. Female spikes to 2 cm long, rachis stout. Fruit orbicular, obcordate, 2.2 x 3 cm, glabrous.
